Who are your favourites for the new season?

A bit of fun - who are your favourites to:

1. Win Premier League
2. Bottom of Premier League
3. Win Division 1 North and South
4. Win promotion to premier league

I'll go for:

1. Sheffield
2. Streatham
3. Nottingham and Cardiff
4. No idea!

Re: Womens D1 the future?

The old way was far more popular, had far more variety and meant there were more competitive games. 'more popular and more variety' does not = more competitive. My recollection was that the old way was considerably less competitive, especially if you measure competitiveness, or lack of, by (e.g.) t...

Re: Womens D1 the future?

'going back to how it was', may be difficult not least of all because there are new clubs since last time. S&G have joined the south, as presumably will Cardiff and maybe also the rumoured new team out of Swindon/Bristol. Factoring in losing Bisons to premier league means that division 1 south i...

Re: Is there any playoff news since Cardiff withdrew?

Will the WD1 winner go up or decline....but I guess that and the answer is a totally different thread.[/quote] I thought the rule was now that if you won you had to go up, and if you declined then you would have to withdraw from present league for a season before being allowed to re-apply again the ...

Re: Womens D1 the future?

I quite like a lot of Dave's idea, but just a few observations re his proposals: 1. if it is bad/boring for division 1 to play some teams 4 times now, won't it also be 'boring' for prem teams to play all teams 4 times as under his proposal? 2. for me one of the weaknesses of the current structure is...

Re: Womens D1 the future?

If ANY change is to be made for next season, someone has got to put forward a properly consituted proposal in plenty of time for the AGM. I'm not sure what the rules are, but I assume any proposals have to be in writing x days before with nominations, etc. The alternative will be that the current si...

Re: International Transfer Card

This ITC thing is a serious and pernicious move that will do considerable harm to womens hockey, which is bound to lose quite a few players. The cost of the ITC is so high that it will seriously deter non-UK players from playing. I haven't seen anywhere any justication for the fee, why it is so high...

Re: Women’s hockey this weekend 19th/20th December

I'm thinking they will be good games. France should be the dominant team especially for first game given that GB are travelling through the night and may be v tired. But, that said, I don't think the new players will weaken the team much. Cornford and Bolton both did very well for England in Canada ...

Re: Women’s hockey this weekend 19th/20th December

GB senior womens team also play two challenge games v France, next Monday and Tuesday, 21st and 22nd in Dunkirk. GB are icing a number of experienced players along with several recently out of GB under-18s and reserves from last season's world championship campaign. It will be interesting to see how...

Re: d1 league structures and games?

Many players do want a voice but it also comes down to the quality of a club's management. I really don't remember being asked once about my opinion regarding the league structure, first when it was introduced and then this summer. Indeed, few of us are told when the AGM takes place, what issues ar...

world championships: proposal for change.

It looks like there are proposals to change the format of the world championships which are currently played annually for men and every year except olympic year for women. The proposal seems to be for all championships below the top level to move to every other year (men, women and juniors). The rea...

Re: d1 league structures and games?

Dave Interesting post, but there are lots of issues on which I would take issue. Firstly, numbers of women players/teams - the number has been grown steadily over the years. There is now something like 50% more girls playing under 16 hockey (with the boys I mean) that was the case 5 years ago. It is...

Re: d1 league structures and games?

Shiloh - quite a good suggestion I think. 3 games against all opponents would give 18 games in Div 1 South and 15 games in North and Midlands. Teams in South would have to supply 9 home ice slots and teams in Midlands and North 7 one season and 8 the next. With your proposal I asume teams would alte...
